Video

Django Kroner is making a living, and living the dream - constructing and renting magical tree houses. Check out this beautiful video that tells his story and explores Kentucky's Red River Gorge. Read below to see Django's response to some questions I sent over, and see more of what he's up to here: The Canopy Crew's website.

Interview

How did you pair up with Red Wing?

A rock climbing friend of mine was doing some video work for them and he hit me up about the project. It sounded like a fun way to kick off the year!

What type of Red Wing boots do you wear?

I have a few boots from the heritage line...I like the classics.

What are your go-to work clothes?

Prana climbing gear. Nothing beats the breathability and flexibility for swinging around trees.

How would you describe your personal style?

hmmm, comfortable and functional. I like joggers and wool sweaters!

What were you doing for work before you started The Canopy Crew?

I have always been building cabins or tree climbing for work...besides a few restaurant jobs here and there. Most of my jobs have been apprenticeships so that I can get paid to learn something I need to know.

What was your experience like with NOLS? What sort of adventures did it take you on?

NOLS was amazing. i did a semester in the southwest when I was 19. Over all I feel like it taught me how to lead, and how to make due with whatever resources you are given. Spending that much time in the backcountry really gets your mind right.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Balling out in the world's coolest treehouse village! In ten years...Ill probably be living full time in the gorge, have a nice treehouse homestead, and spend my mornings paragliding through the fog. Id like to get back to a really simple lifestyle of just slowly making stuff and going on adventures.

What words of encouragement would you provide to people who aren't chasing their dreams?

Question what you really need. If it seems like your dreams aren't attainable because of financial reasons then you probably don't really want it.  Move into a van, get a side job, and spend your free time chasing what you want. People with nothing have achieved so much just by a simple mindset change. Theres no real reason to go through life doing something thats not making you feel alive.

Any parting thoughts?

Mentors are everywhere!
